Online only - marriage and couples relationship counselling
I am a member of the NZ Association of Counsellors and I specialise in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.
I do no individual therapy at all - including if the work is focused on relationship.
In the last 15 years I have concentrated on couples' work, and since about 2012 I have worked with couples only.
I bring a wide range of other learning, personal development and life experience to my work.
After 10 years of working with couples in Wellington including 8 as a Director of Counselling and Psychotherapy Associates in Thorndon, Wellington, I moved to the Kapiti Coast in mid-2018, but work only online.
Zoom online counselling only.
No face-to-face counselling available.
Currently (August 2024 and for the foreseeable future) I am working ONLINE only. I am sorry I am not able to offer in-person counselling at the moment.
Typical clients
My clients are mostly partners who have somehow become disconnected, often through repeating patterns of bickering and nagging, fighting and withdrawing, or having just grown apart and disconnected - maybe with little or no affection, expressions of love or sexual relationship between them - and sometimes to a point where it feels, to one or both of them, like they are 'trapped' with little hope of anything changing.
I also see couples who are dealing with the revelation of one partner having an affair, or some other past relationship injury, seriously threatening their future together.
Approach - Emotionally Focused Therapy
I work with 'Emotionally Focused Therapy' (EFT) that I have been training in and working with since 2008. Unlike many other therapy models EFT is an approach that has been developed and refined over 30-40 years based on much on-going academic and scientific research.
As one of the more experienced NZ therapists using this model I have been a Certified EFT Therapist for over 8 years (Certification is the international official recognition of competency in working with EFT - and is awarded after being able to thoroughly demonstrate acquisition of the knowledge and skills of the EFT model - and most typically it takes therapists in excess of 5 years to reach this level).
Like many others I have found EFT far more effective for getting good results in couple relationship work than any other problem-solving, communication skills, conflict resolution and assertiveness/reflective listening approaches that I used in the past. I love working this way!
For more information about EFT please check out my "Couples counselling" webpage. This webpage also gives link details for a really powerful little 2 minute video clip - you might want to check it out - as well as details of an excellent book called "Hold Me Tight" which I strongly recommend couples to read.
Location - NZ - online only
I work from my home at Waikanae on the Kapiti Coast, but you might live anywhere in NZ because I am working only online.
So please contact me if you would like to make an appointment.
Finding another EFT therapist
If you like what you read on my website about EFT but for any reason would prefer to see another therapist I am very happy to refer you to others.
I could suggest checking out the official website for EFT in NZ. Click (or copy) this link http://nzeft.org/location/therapists/ and then scroll down the listing (which is presented in a north to south format: Whangarei to Dunedin) and you will find Wellington listings there in the middle and therapists who are registered as members of the NZ Community of EFT and also of the International EFT organisation. Some are also offering online sessions.
